Parquet flooring is made from thin hardwood that is then laid in beautiful patterns on a wood subfloor. The inlaid parquet flooring is then made of veneer of decorative hardwood that has been glued in patterns to squares of softwood backing. With this, the flooring is then laid onto the subfloor. Just remember, if you are thinking about putting in new flooring you will need to make sure you have a good quality, clean subfloor.
If you want to install parquet flooring, we recommend you choose a straight, long wall to start with for the parquet tiles. Then, measure from the wall the distance of two pieces of tile, in addition to one-half inch, which would be used for the expansion gap. Now, create a chalk mark for your reference point. You would then measure and mark the floor again, creating the chalk line so that it can intersect with your original reference point, making sure the intersection is at a 90-degree angle. Next to lay the parquet flooring, use a square notched trowel, spreading on adhesive in a thin but smooth layer. Just remember that you only want to spread adhesive on in about a 3 x 3 foot area so the material is still wet. Set the first parquet flooring tile into place, setting it at the intersection of the chalk lines. Just be sure the tile edges line up on both sides. Then, set the tile firmly, pressing it down into the adhesive material. After the first tile for your parquet flooring is in place, you would then continue setting all the tiles using the reference line while sliding the edges together. The interlocking of the tongue and groove design for the tiles would then be gently locked into place. After completing your first row, you would spread out more adhesive, again keeping the area small so the adhesive is wet while being used. Follow the same process for each floor until the entire floor is covered. Of course, keep in mind that your parquet flooring tiles will have to be trimmed in some areas to create a perfect fit. |
