Garage Floor Covering

For starters, there is the standard type of garage floor covering, which is good for day-to-day wear and tear.  In this case, the standard mat would work well for families that part the cars in the garage, use it as workspace, or spend time in the garage doing other things.  Typically, these mats are ribbed, which helps channel water out of the garage.  The ribbed style also helps control small objects such as screws or nails, dust, loose dirt, and debris.

Next, there is the heavy-duty garage floor covering, which comes in two primary designs to include the coin and ribbed pattern.  Just as the name suggests, this type of floor covering is built tougher and more durable.  The main difference is the thickness, which makes the mat a stronger choice.  With the heavy-duty option, high impact areas are generally targeted.  For example, if you have an area where you store tractors, snowmobiles, or other types of heavy machinery, the heavy-duty mat would work best.

Then, you have lightweight garage floor covering, which is designed strictly for under the vehicle.  Made with lighter material, this floor mat is very affordable and super easy to install.  Keep in mind that with the lightweight mat, some have some assembly required.  Additionally, this type of garage floor covering is not to be used on trucks or cars with snow tires.  However, if you need something to protect the garage floor from mud, dirt, or even oil, this is an excellent choice.

Regardless of the type of garage flooring you choose, remember that all of it can become damaged.  If you were to drop some type of corrosive chemical on the covering, chances are it would deteriorate.  For this reason, you want to take care of the floor covering as best you can so it will last for years.  However, if your garage floor covering should be damaged, many times, it can be repaired back to almost new condition.
