Carpet Tiles

Have you heard of carpet tiles? Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t! I had never even conceived the notion of carpet tiles until doing some research on a recent project for home improvement and design, but it seems that somewhere, sometime an integrating genius has come up with the idea of blending the age old ideas of carpeting and tiling into a concept that is known as carpet tiles. It might be that the advantages of this type of flooring are immediately apparent to you, but for those who like to see it laid out in print I offer the following reasons and areas where you might want to consider using carpet tile as your flooring option.

Most carpet is pretty hard to install yourself, but with tile the job becomes much easier. You can decide the pattern you would like or just place the tiles randomly, ensuring a great non conformance look. If you want the broadloom carpet look, however, you will have to follow the pile of the cloth, but this is fairly simple as each tile will come with an arrow on the back indicating which way the direction of the pile is. You also will not require very many tools in order to lay this flooring option, all that is needed is a Stanley knife (or other strong utility knife), a pencil or chalk marker, double sided carpet tape, and a straight edge, a  cutting board and a tape measure. Tiles come with underlay on the back already, so you do not have to worry about installing underlay before you put in the tile. Just make sure your floor is level, clean and dry before you begin.

One of the great aspects of carpet tile is the ease with which it can be cleaned. The carpet is easy to vacuum, and if you want you can even remove individual pieces in order to soak or clean them if they are spilled on. These easy cleaning aspects makes this option an ideal one for kids rooms and even offices, where there will be a lot of traffic and danger of spillage. When you soak your tiles, they will not lose their color, shrink, or warp.

There are several companies who deal in carpet tile, in fact most carpet dealers will also offer customers carpet tile on request. Unlike traditional rolled carpet, tiles can also be used in many areas if it is found that there are a few too many for the floor space. They can be used in a pet’s room or even in your children’s tree house or other outside play area, allowing them to pretend that they have carpet of their own.
